DC DSA Summer Picnic

July 23, 2017 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Rock Creek Park | Beach Drive | Washington, DC 20011

Event Page: https://www.meetup.com/DC-DSA/events/241331768/

Come one, come all to the DC DSA summer picnic, and get to know your fellow DC socialists!

FOOD

We’ll be providing the main course – burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers – for $2-3 each.

Please bring your own sides to share, potluck style!  Go to #the_picnic channel on Slack to compare notes and see what’s needed.

You can also bring desserts, which we’d like to sell to raise money for the convention.  Chime in at #the_picnic about this, too.

ACTIVITIES

This is a family friendly event!  All ages are welcome.

We’ll have a bunch of games, including a CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT to raise funds for our convention delegates, frisbee, a piñata, face painting, et cetera.

If you feel like you have anything to offer, please let the steering committee know.

LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION

We’ll be at Rock Creek Park’s picnic site 7.  The site is north of Military Road and west of 16th Street.  The easiest way to get there is by car, and there’s plenty of parking.

We humbly request that if you have a car that you consider offering to help those in your area without cars get to the site, because it’s a challenge to reach it otherwise.  Head over to Slack’s #the_picnic channel to arrange carpools!

We also request volunteers with cars who can pick up people with limited mobility from Friendship Heights Metro, which is a straight but long shot down Military Road.  Please contact jessie@jlmannisto.com if you would like to volunteer or to make use of this shuttle service.

You can also try the bus.  The S2 and S4 buses stop on 16th Street, near enough to our site to be a reasonable walk for those without mobility concerns.  Head into the park and follow signs up Beach Drive to the picnic sites.  The signage is pretty good.

OTHER NOTES

There’s a bathroom available (decent stalls for a campsite), but it’s about a 5-10 minute walk across the very large campsite from our picnic area.

You may also wish to bring bug spray.  Sunblock, too, though it’s reasonably shady.  And though there are picnic tables, bringing your own folding chairs won’t be amiss, should you have any!
